Secretary's Report 2008 Cuirim fáilte is fiche romhaimh go léir anseo ar an 24ú lá de Mhean Fómhair 2004 ar ocáid ollchruinniú de Choiste Sciath na Scol. Is cúis áthais dom Tuarascáil an Rúnaí a chur ós bhúr gcomhair. Finals We played over 50 finals in Páirc Ui Rinn and Páirc Ui Chaoimh throughout the year. Na Piarsaigh GAA Club was the venue for our Indoor Hurling/Camogie Finals .The successful running of our Finals involve many teachers and non teachers helping the Coiste in a variety of ways-stewarding, refereeing, commentating ,collecting at gates, etc .We would like to thank the schools involved for their usual co-operation. Míle buíochas do gach duine a thug cabhair duinn. Buíochas do Tommy agus Mick freisin for all their help. A special word of thanks to Marion Whyte (Sunday’s Well) and Betty Kenneally (Mahon) for all their assistance in planning these days. Brendan Barry and Mike English continue to provide us with excellent videos, photographs and press coverage. Dave Nolan P.R.O. has succeeded in raising the profile of our activities to a high level in the media. Our thanks must also be expressed to the staff in both Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Pairc Ui Rinn for their help and patience during the Finals. One of the biggest problems we encounter at our Finals are deviations from the official match day programme. Teachers think nothing of changing the jersey number which had already been assigned to a particular player . This in turn causes problems for the organisers, commentators ,video personnel and the media. Every year the number of schools who enter our competitions continues to rise. We are delighted with this trend but it brings a number of logistical problems. Travelling distances between competing schools is on the increase. The number of schools who fail to complete their fixture programme is on the increase (especially in our Mini 7’s competitions.) This has to be addressed and we welcome any suggestions. The Coiste would to thank the teachers who make their GAA facilities available to us and who act as co-ordinators. However, some teachers never offer their help in any form and still expect to avail of other peoples good will. Review Committee A review committee was established at last years AGM and as a result our outdoor leagues have been revamped. Football Fixtures were posted on our website at the end of August. We increased the number of schools in each Roinn. Schools are to play 1 match a week and are to arrange their own fixtures. Our Finals will hopefully be played in November. Secretary Assumpta Whelton was appointed our new Administrative secretary last September. She has proven to be outstanding at her work , As a committee we would find it impossible to complete our fixtures without her assistance. Coiste Sciath na Scol would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her patience, dedication and hard work. We are grateful to the County Board for providing a grant towards this assistance. Uachtarán Jim Turner ( North Mon) was elected as our new Uachtarán and we extend a Cead Mile Failte to him . Coistí A sincere word of thanks to our divisional committees who organise our competitions in Tuaisceart Chorcaí, Iarthar Chorcaí, Carrig Donn ,Oirthir Chorcai and Muscraí. Their help is gratefully appreciated .Without this support and assistance, we would find it impossible to cater for all the schools in the County. Summary Sciath na Scol is moving towards electronic mail. We are grateful for your co-operation in this area. As Runaí of Sciath na Scol I would like to thank everybody who heped and supported me throughout the year, especially the staff of Glenville N.S. The Coiste of Celine Hyde, Mark O Driscoll, Dave Collins, Jack Lynch, Deaglan O Deargain, Jerry Walshe, Dave Nolan, Liam Breathnach and Liam Weir are to be congratulated on their work throughout the year. Tony O’ Farrell (our Cathaoirlach) continues to be the “mastermind” of the Coiste and we thank him accordingly. Mairéad Ní Cheallacháin Rúnaí
