Hurling and Camogie first selection will be on week beginning 11th March

The Camogie will be on 11th and 13th March and the Hurling will be on the 12th and 14th March 2024

All schools who nominated a child have been notified of a date and time to attend.

Primary game selection process for Hurling/Camogie/Football

Schools must be affiliated to Sciath na Scol to enter a child for Primary game, ie they must take part in a Sciath na Scol competition in the year 2023/2024

Please note the rule regarding selection of children for primary games.  Only one girl and one boy can be selected to play from an individual school and be born on or after 1st January 2011

Guidelines for Primary Go Games 2023

No more than one boy and one girl from any school may play in the Primary Game series in a given year. i.e. One boy from an all-boys school. One girl from an all-girls school. One boy and one girl from a mixed school.

All children must be under 13 i.e. born on or after January 1st 2011.

All players must be in Sixth Class.

A child may play in the Primary Go Games just once.

Any child chosen to play in Croke Park in the INTO Mini Sevens is not eligible for the Primary Game.

The objective is to see as many schools as possible represented in the Primary Game.

Football: 

  • Gumshields must be worn for boys’ and girls’ football. This applies to training as well as games.
  • Onus on parents to ensure that these rules are observed.
  • Teachers should remind children: ‘No gumshield, no game’.
  • Referees reminded to enforce this also.

Camogie:  

  • All children must wear a helmet. This applies to both training and matches.
  • If a player has a banded hurley, the band must be taped over.
  • Schools are advised to inform parents of these regulations.
  • Responsibility on schools not to sell banded hurleys to girls.
  • Teacher should carry out a visual inspection before matches.
  • Referee should carry out a visual inspection before games.

Hurling: 

  • In underage hurling, up to and including Under 12 age groups, the use of metal bands on hurleys is prohibited unless the metal bands are taped over.
  • Cumann na mBunscol committees that organise Under 10, Under 11 or 12 hurling need to make teachers and parents aware of this.
  • Schools are advised to inform parents of these regulations.
  • Responsibility on schools not to sell banded hurleys to boys taking part in competitions up to and including under 12.
  • Teacher should carry out a visual inspection before matches.
  • Referee should carry out a visual inspection before games.
  • Young Whistlers cannot be responsible  for checking for bands on hurleys.

Hurling/Camogie Skills to be held in early 2024. Keep an eye on email for details

Each year 240 children are selected to play in Croke Park in the colours of the competing senior teams in front of huge attendances. For the children who are selected it is a very proud and memorable occasion. Some of the children who have played in the mini sevens have gone on to represent their county in many competitions.

The mini sevens is structured so that every county will be represented on one of the six days. A pupil from your school might be lining out on All Ireland Day 2024.

Mini sevens – This year as last year we are having a skills competition and a mini blitz.
(Closing date) = Mini sevens entry form to be submitted online by Tuesday 14th November. See below for links.

No late entries or entries not submitted online will be accepted. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED VIA THE ONLINE FORM (email will not be accepted). (one boy and one girl for each code only… ie a co ed school can send 1 boy and 1 girl in each code, a girls school 1 girl and a boys school 1 boy) in each code
Remember this competition has age restrictions and will be strictly adhered to by the INTO.

Boys Football/Girls Football will be on Tuesday 21st November  in Páirc Ui Chaoimh We will have morning and early afternoon sessions. Times will be sent out to each school when we know numbers taking part (subject to change)
